Float FAQS
Float Benefits
-
People see benefits including stress relief, pain relief, relaxation, better sleep, behavioral adjustments, increased focus, more creativity, reconnection with self, technology detox, increased learning skills, and better brain synchronization.
-
You will notice a difference after your first float but regular sessions provide the most benefits. The benefits of a float can last days to weeks after you complete your session. Regular sessions provide the body with repeated opportunities to release, repair, and learn how to maintain a more relaxed state over time.
Before You Float
-
We recommend having a light meal 2 hrs before your float, avoiding caffeine, and being well hydrated. Don’t shave or wax the same day; do not use spray tan, self tanner, essential oils, or lotions prior to your float. If you have just colored your hair, you will need to wait at least one week until you can float.
-
Just yourself! If you wear contacts, it’s good to bring a case, your solution, and your glasses. We provide everything else: towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and ear plugs. We also have a blow dry station for after your float (We supply the blow dryer). You could bring a brush if you wish.
-
No, floating in the nude is recommended. This will allow your body to truly have no pressure points as you float. The float suite is completely private.
Who can float?
-
Yes! When you are floating there are no pressure points on the body and you can experience zero gravity relieving pains caused by pregnancy. Note: If you have a high risk pregnancy or if you are in your third trimester, please consult with your Physician and follow his/ her advice.
-
Unless you’re over 7 feet tall or over 400 pounds, you’re good to go. The weightless environment is beneficial for people of all sizes!
-
Children ages 10-14 can float with a parent present in the facility throughout their session; Patients 14-16, a parent is required to be present for the child’s first float; recurrent floats do not require a parent to be physically present but we must be able to reach a parent at any time for assistance or consent. For any child it’s important the child understands that they can end their float at any time and get out of the pod; we do not suggest reluctant children attempt a float.
-
If you’re coughing, sneezing, or your nose is running, floating is not a great idea – it will be almost impossible for you to avoid getting the saltwater in your face and that will sting a lot. We want you to enjoy your float, and you won’t if your nose is burning. Also, if you are contagious, it is kindest to others to stay home. We will be glad to help you reschedule your appointment.
-
Yes. Just use the same precautions you’d use for a swimming pool or hot tub, e.g. a menstrual cup or tampon. If you use tampons, we recommend a fresh one before you float, and a change after you get out. If you’re caught without your supplies, there are tampons s available in the float suite.
-

Float Comfort
-
It’s okay, many people are, but at Source you can customize your float. Our float pods are very user friendly and you can float with the pod lid open or closed, with or without music and the lights on or off. Besides, buoyancy will make you feel like you are floating in outer space.
-
No, you will absorb Magnesium from the Epson Salt preventing dehydration, and your skin will be silky smooth after your session.
-
The water is warm but not hot. We keep it as close as we can to skin temperature, 93.5°F. That allows you to float as long as you like without getting chilled or overheated, and it’s neutral for your skin temperature receptors so you won’t even really feel it’s there. Some people come expecting the water to be hot like a bath or a jacuzzi, and it’s not. If you take a very hot shower before entering the tank, it can even feel cool. To ease your transition into the tank we suggest you try showering a little cooler than usual.
Float Safety
-
While it is possible to drown in any pool of liquid, float tanks are much safer than most other bodies of water because they contain a high concentration of epsom salt. It is impossible to sink in a float tank, and you must exert a conscious effort to turn onto your side or attempt floating face-down. Many people safely sleep while they are floating.
-
Generally this is no problem. Some people, though, do come out of the tank in a very trance-y, sleepy altered state, and need some time to come back to normal before being ready to drive. We encourage you not to be in a hurry to get out the door after your float. We have tea and comfortable chairs you’re welcome to occupy for as long as you like.
-
The interior of a float pod is exceptionally sanitary. Our float pod has up to 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt dissolved in the water, which raises the salinity to levels that are inhospitable to bacteria, including microbes and other pathogens.
The Solution is sterilized between each session through a process of commercial-grade circulation, filtration and purified using a combination of UV (Ultraviolet Light) and Ozone. No harsh chemicals (Chlorine, Bromine etc) are used in the solution at Source Healing Center. Additionally surfaces are disinfected using EPA registered “Green” disinfectant safe for contact with children and animals.
